View Full Version : Looking for a few Vanguard players

I'm looking for a few adventurous people with decent machines who are interested in trying out Vanguard.

I have two characters, one of the Team PVP server, the other on the FFA PVP server. I am not interested in playing on a PVE server.

I do not play during guild raid times, obviously.

If you are interested, send me a tell, shoot me a PM, or respond here. Would love to have a few more hands. :)

Bleh, all of my RL friends convinced me to roll on Gulgrethor, damn pve realm...

I might drop by there or reroll since I miss pvp

What server and race do you prefer?

Honestly I can't for the life of me decide between Tharridon and Varking. I've been playing characters on both (Warrior on Varking, Cleric on Tharridon). If I go Tharridon, I'll probably re-roll the Warrior.

Varking seems nice but it's just begging for the same Horde/Alliance imbalance from Warcraft. I can't figure out how one becomes Shadow or Order, either, presumably just from race chosen? (if it's not based on Race but is a conscious choice, I'd probably go Varking, and choose Shadow)

Anyhow, Thestran Human for both; I'm debating going Dwarf because you can maximize Constitution that way, but on second glance it also seems that stats are fairly easy to obtain, and have a hard cap of 900, so the difference may not be that important in endgame.

yea, your faction is based on your race choice from what I hear. I'm going to be Order because I'll be rerolling my Raki Disciple sometime today.

Thestran presumably is Order, then, also?

Have you heard anything specifically relating to faction balance? I really don't want to waste my time playing Team PVP if it'll be 70-30 or something absurd (would rather go FFA).

This is my concern (copy pasted from a google search):

Shadow - 8 Races Total
1 Bard 12.5%
3 Blood Mage 37.5%
1 Cleric 12.5%
4 Disciple 50%
5 Death Knight 62.5%
4 Druid 50%
2 Monk 25%
3 Necromancer 37.5%
1 Paladin 12.5%
2 Psionist 25%
1 Ranger 12.5%
7 Rogue 87.5%
6 Shaman 75%
3 Sorcerer 37.5%
6 Warrior 75%

Order - 11 Races total
7 Bards 63.63%
6 Blood Mage 54.54%
7 Cleric 63.63%
5 Disciple 45.45%
3 Death Knights 27.27%
6 Druids 54.54%
4 Monks 36.36%
4 Necromancer 36.36%
5 Paladin 45.45%
7 Psionist 63.63%
7 Ranger 63.63%
10 Rogue 90.90%
2 Shaman 18.18%
7 Sorcerer 63.63%
7 Warrior 63.63%

That's the race/class balance. Shadow gets hosed on alot of those by comparison to Order; I just don't see how well conceived this is.

Then again, can Shadow and Order be in the same guild? Odd question, but I'm serious.

Well, I believe it's possible, but you cant have any friendly interactions between factions

And is the FFA server pure FFA? or is it race-based?

Ciderhelm

Well, I'll leave it up to you. PVP is PVP, I'll enjoy it either way, if you want to do Varking or Tharridon it makes my life easier if you choose. Just let me know!

p.s. its double XP weekend!

The FFA I believe is purely FFA with no restrictions. My FFA character hasn't broken level 7 though so I haven't had the privilege of discovering just how FFA it is. :)

Final decision was Tharridon, for anyone that's interested

My UI sucks so I'm installing DroxUI.

I'll link it if anyone wants to give it a try. It's an all around UI customizer thingy.

How is vanguard? havent played it, considering it though, as long as its better than eq2 =\ looks the same in videos/ss Ive seen.

It has a really in-depth crafting component which allows for just about everything, from the standard blacksmithing to building houses and ships and developing plots of land into /gasp guild halls and better. So that aspect is taken from several games, but the housing from Ultima Online, which is always a good thing.

Game itself is very good. Very group oriented. It's essentially the same leveling curve as 1-60 in Warcraft, except it's 50 levels, and the first 20 aren't easy like WoW. The only major difference -- and it is major -- is it can be very difficult to solo significant portions of the game. But conversely, it's also easy to find groups, as everyone else needs them too.

I'm playing the FFA server. Lots of PVP!

Instance design is excellent. Outdoor stuff is excellent. It's more of a large-scale game, where EQ2 emphasize the small-party goal.

I'd love to have a few more people trying it out. That's for sure.
