Yesterday, a video game shattered yet another Kickstarter record: in its first 24 hours, Torment: Tides of Numenera raised $1.7 million, becoming the fastest Kickstarter to earn a million dollars.
Tides of Numenera is a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment, a role-playing game that came out for the PC back in 1999, and it's received blessings from a chunk of the old Planescape team, including designer Chris Avellone. Maybe that's why it's made so much money.

"I thought the writing was top-notch, as well as the voice acting....I was enjoying the story, and I was curious to see where it was going. You certainly had me hooked!"

It's a really annoying market for games. Many big companies are producing KIckstarter games, which takes most of the funding away from the little guys.
There should be some form of kickback or cross endorsing thing for the big guys.

The game engine looks amazing. I never actually played much of Torment, but it's been on my list to revisit. Glad these kinds of RPGs are making a comeback. They were always my favorite.

Not your typical RPG. Billion years in the future. Sounds like one of those 90's RPGs that is mainly driven by story. The kind of game we haven't seem much of for almost two decades. All the games now overloaded with flashy action that just makes most of them fairly boring.
This year seems to be turning out nice so far for games. Nioh, Horizon zero dawn, Tides, Mass effect soon. FF7 remake hopefully makes a showing at E3. Lots of other nice looking stuff out there game wise.
looks pretty awesome they are up to 4.1mil now

Damn yoox, you beat me to it!
I got a free copy of this by backing the upcoming Bards Tale IV game. Hoping to check it out sometime this week.

BTW - my Bard's Tale kickstarter pledge also got me a free key for Wasteland 2, but I already had it. If anyone is interested in a free copy (from Steam), let me know and I'll PM it to you.

Early reviews of Tides on Steam aren't very good. =/
I played for about an hour the other day and was immediately disappointed with the lack of polish on the game. The UI in particular looked really amateurish. If it was an alpha, I'd understand. But for a $45 game, pass. If I didn't get it for free, I'd probably be getting a refund.
Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin, and Tyranny are all drastically better games if you're looking for that old school bioware CRPG style game.

Very well done. A TON of reading, but I was expecting that and also looking for a slower paced theme. Great story, writing (2 million + words), planescape/werid sci-fi setting, only drawback for me was party development. Each character has their own side story, but its brief and lacks any real consequence, other than Rhin. Great play regardless, on my second playthrough!
