It was on sale on Steam this past week, figured it was gtg. Guess not! I tried playing the original and couldn't get into it (mostly due to dated engine/gameplay) Would like to give this one a shot

Picked it up today. Played for a couple hours. Good game. Basically a modern day Baldur's Gate.

I was a little worried it wouldn't be worth the $40, but I'm 22 hours in and apparently only 25-30% through the game so I'm pretty pleased. Not sure how much replayability there will be though. It's probably like Might and Magic in that regard -- lots of ways to build your classes and skills to play with so in theory it'd be fun to try the other classes, but since the story and quests are all the same, it'd probably get boring.

Very solid game though. Probably about 80 hours worth of gameplay. It's a much better Baldur's Gate so far.

Finished this one tonight after 60 hours of gameplay. Good game, really well done story. There were too many puzzles to make it a great game though. Fortunately you can find everything on google, because otherwise I'd be hating this game. Lots of times you have to find some minuscule switch -- or four -- in some area without even knowing that's what you need to do. And it often blocks progress on the main quest. Overall very good game though.

Hopefully Project Eternity is very similar, minus all the puzzles.

Sweet. D:OS was amazing. Great story. Hope they can churn out these new ones based on the same engine pretty quickly.

Picked the collector edition up as a little gift to myself. Holy hell I was missing out. A couple hours in and it is starting to get good. The massive lore period was a little bit of a grind but I think this is the kind of game that I've been jonesing for (BG and Ultima were a couple years before my time). Can't wait to play co-op, seems like the bickering couple mechanic in game is bound to get more interesting and integral rather as opposed to coming off as a tiresome gimmick.

Thank you fellas for posting this, probably wouldn't have given it a chance otherwise.

Larian announced a few days ago that they're completely remaking D:OS and offering it for free to anyone that currently owns D:OS.

A Whole New Game

Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition is a completely separate game: not an update to Divinity: Original Sin. Both games will remain available on PC and Mac, and it is important to note that they are totally different entities, so if you've already bought Original Sin you'll see separate listings for Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition in your Steam Library. This means that saved games can't be transferred from Divinity: Original Sin to the Enhanced Edition. This is largely because of the technical changes we've made to how the game looks and feels, but the story has also been rewritten so heavily that most saved games would no longer be compatible with the plot. (After all, it wouldn't make sense to load a game in which you're halfway through a quest line that's been replaced with something different.)

From the very first day of production, we designed the Enhanced Edition to be optimized for DirectX 11 graphics. For our Windows players, this means that Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition will require a 64-bit system and a graphics card with DirectX 11 hardware support. However, both editions of the game will remain available to everyone on Steam, so Windows players with 32-bit systems and DirectX 9 will always be able to play Divinity: Original Sin.

When Can We Play?

As Swen says: "When? When it's ready!" We are committed to giving you the best possible experience and we will not compromise on quality, so it's going to take as long as it'll take. But watch this space, the release date is coming soon!

Are You Ready For E3?

We are! At E3 we'll be sharing much more about Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition's features and gameplay, including the much-anticipated new modes of play.

I'll bite. Why exactly are they doing this? I never finished it, nor have I kept up with any discussion pertaining.

When we shipped D:OS my initial feeling was – that’s it, I never want to see D:OS again after having risked pretty much everything for it and having woken up with the monster it is for years. But then the feedback came in together with criticism I thought was correct, and I started wondering what it’d take to fix it. And I wasn’t alone. Most in our team had the same feeling and wanted to improve things further.

And so we started, first with small things intended to be included in the N-th patch, but soon with more drastic things that couldn’t be included that easily. Then, even more drastic things made it to our tasklist that conflicted with the “patch protocol”, a series of rules that ensure story changes don’t break savegame compatibility and would therefore only be present in new games.

When the UI, controller and split-screen experiments looked like they were going to be succesful, it almost became a no-brainer that we’d apply our re-engineering skills to the entire game. And so we did.

One of our biggest issues was that we suddenly had two games to maintain on PC. One was singlethreaded, the other multithreaded. One was based on DirectX 11, the other on DirectX 9. One had limited camera rotation allowing for certain pieces of level design to be incomplete, the other a 360 degree camera. One was live, the other wasn’t etc…

It quickly became impossible to do things on both games simultanously as the changes become bigger and bigger, and so at some point we had to make a choice. We decided to do only the really necessary things on D:OS and focus all of our creative energy on the Enhanced Edition.

The sequel, Divinity:Original Sin 2, is going to be released next week (Thursday the 14th). I haven't checked out the early access yet, but it's getting rave reviews on Steam so far. Really looking forward to this one.

Review - A godly ascension

Their review pretty much nails it. If you at all liked DOS:1, or similar games of the genre, you'll love DOS:2. It's the pinnacle of CRPGs.

It's not without its bugs though. Play slowly, or wait a couple weeks for them to iron everything out. But definitely don't forget about it, because it's unquestionably game-of-the-year quality.
