Exactly. As people are pointing out, of they were able to take it down, then what's the point of them trying to pass SOPA? The whole situation with this shit is ridiculous.

SOPA/PIPA are all about websites that facilitate filesharing. On a website like this, where users generate the content, SOPA/PIPA could potentially be used if someone hosted or even just linked to copyrighted material. What MegaUpload was indicted for (which based on the evidence presented in the complaint seems at least fair enough to make an arrest) was conspiracy, racketeering, and money laundering. Basically, the owners knowingly sought out, paid for, and profited from the distribution of copyrighted material to the tune if millions of dollars.
Long story short, SOPA/PIPA are about the little guy, and MegaUpload is not the little guy. Also, what up losers. |

I oppose SOPA/PIPA. I was just explaining the difference between those bills and this situation. And as for this situation, the criminal complaint is fairly robust, and I think compelling enough that any Grand Jury would vote to indict. I think the current copyright regime needs some reforms because it is being pretty clearly abused but under current law MegaUpload is very culpable.
Also, suck my dick Rufus. |
