New Computer
So, going to be putting together a new comp and these are the parts I've picked out....looking for some feedback or whatever. I researched for a couple hours - I"m not looking for super top of the line crap, but I'm not looking for a piece of shit either. Budget is right around $1000, which is where this currently falls. I'm going to be using my old computers case, so that's why there isn't one here and also my old DVD-RW and CD drives.

Hell yeah. Some questions/comments:
1) Mobo's fine. Is SLI a high priority? Could easily shave $100 off that if a single video card solution will work for ya. 2) CPU's great, I'm using the 6000+ myself and it owns faces. 3) RAM is also good. 4) Video card's solid if you plan to play games aside from WoW. Otherwise the 512MB model of the 8800GT would do just fine. 5) HD's good. 6) Antec's TruPowers have taken a bit of a dive in the past couple years. The one you listed *should* be solid but I've lost a little faith in 'em. If you're running with a mid tower, I recommend this PSU. I use it myself and it's rock solid with a quiet but effective fan. Let me know if you have any other questions or comments. |

Thanks for the feedback, like I said before I don't know much more than the average joe. I pretty much just looked for stuff with names I know, had decent reviews, and had good stats and such.
To be honest, I have no idea what SLI really means, but I'm assuming from your response it just means its capable of multiple video cards. If that's the case, then its not something I really need. I don't plan on using more than one video card unless you count this TV tuner card I have which I do use. On the video card - I can't really say on my plans, but WoW is my main concern. Basically what I had in mind when looking at that card was for it to last me at least 4 years and be capable of handling whatever upgrades are made to WoW and future gaming within that time period. |

If you're looking for that box to last ya 4 years then SLI is a reasonable idea (you're correct, it's linking 2 video cards together). Adding 1-2 GB of RAM and another of those 8800GTs down the road would be super easy and even more affordable at that time.
Only criticism is the stock HSF on the CPU - it cools really well but under full load it's a bit loud and high pitched for a fan. Let me know if that would be a concern. |

Just caught your reply with the mobo. That one seems okay but it has the niggling issues common to lower-end Asus boards.
Personally I use this mobo in my latest rig - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130065 If you don't need SLI or a lot of PCI slots like me, this is a very good board. Installation was easy with clear documentation on the manual. |

Fucking christ the board is no longer for sale (and fuck no edits). I'll try to find something else.

Depends on how loud you're talking. My current box is pretty loud at times and I don't really mind it. Unless you're talking abnormally loud then its fine with me.

Can't find anything I can personally attest to. The second mobo would be good if you want to pick up other components or just save some cash overall. Otherwise, that first board is a beast - only reason I mentioned another mobo was because I'm so happy with mine.
From what you describe, the sound on the stock CPU HSF should be fine. Beyond that, you seem good to go provided you're covered on the standard stuff (OS, cables, etc.). |

Yeah I'm pretty sure I have everything else I need. I have some extra HDD cables lying around and other random crap. And I've got a windows XP I can install so its looking good. I'll probably wait until tomorrow night to put in the order in case anyone reads this and sees something I'm missing/forgetting/etc.
Can't wait to be playing again >.> |
