Ultima Online -- Still going? Seriously Huge Expansion? wow...

Well, no one saw this coming.

Electronic Arts decided to invest a boat load of money into rebuilding Ultima Online. Apparently they still have a subscriber base as large as most active MMO's (no where near WoW or Lineage, but right around EQ and EQ2).

The goal is to make the game competitive again. As they describe it, they are the only MMO that is completely unique from the others on the market. To be honest, they are completely right -- UO is skill-based, not class-based, and does not have any of the classical game designs of Everquest or Warcraft.

Don't believe me? Check out "Kingdom Reborn" on UO's website or EA.

Here's some revamped graphics screenies:

Yeah I saw some of the revamp screenies a while back, I may be forced to pick it up again. So many memories (like stealing houses, and hilarious elaborate scams).

If we're lucky they'll release a second Siege Perilous style shard. We'd be SOL to roll on the current Siege Perilous with people 9 years ahead of us, but that's where the hardcore PVP is alive.
